Interior Design, DIY, and Refurbishing

Our Master Bedroom Reveal

I have to say that this room makeover has been my favorite to date! When I told my husband that we were doing a “bedroom refresh”, he said “cool”.  He did not know what he was in for. I’m pretty sure that he just thought that we were changing our sheets. I was careful not to inform him of more than one project at a time. I loved our bedroom the way that it was before but it wasn’t the bedroom of my dreams. I had designed our bedroom previously around the cherry sleigh bed that we had for about 15 years. We knew that we couldn’t afford a new headboard years ago when I initially designed this room around thrift store finds and the bed that we already had. When I partnered with Birch Lane for this bed, I knew that it was the perfect time for a room refresh.  The $30 chandelier and $30 nightstands are both from thrift stores and the standing mirror was a $50 diy project. I had found the oriental rug on a yard sale site for $60. This is where it all began. We went from dark to light. Here is the “before” of our bedroom…

I am beyond thrilled with the “after”. When I decided to do a “bedroom refresh” we still wanted to keep cost down, so we used our old night stands to make these nightstands. You can see the tutorial here. I wanted them to look like old printer cabinets or map cabinets. I love, love, love the way that they turned out! That was project number one for this space.

When the wood arrived for our back wall from Timberchic, we began install and I cannot believe how easy this was to install. It is peel and stick wood and the color is absolutely stunning! They have other colors to choose from as well. To install, we just peeled the paper off of the adhesive strips on the back of the wood and placed it where we wanted it on the wall. This stuff sticks like mad! We started in the middle of the wall so that the top and the bottom of the wall would be even in the end. My hubs does all of the measuring. If he didn’t, we’d have one crooked wall. The wood planks come precut in all sizes. We used the 5″ wide planks and cut the pieces for the ends, top, and bottom of the wall to the size we needed. The wood can be easily cut with many different saws. We used the chop saw for most of the cutting and the table saw for the top and bottom of the wall. I foresee another Timberchic project coming in our near future…after my husband rests for a day or two that is, lol. Aaaaaand for his sake when he reads this…I’m just kidding, about the day or two…not about the project.

If you followed along the install of our beams on IG, thank you so much for all of your kind words. I will have a full tutorial of the diy faux beams coming soon. I love the character that they add in this space! I have always wanted wood ceilings. That has always been a dream of mine…a house filled with wood ceilings! Living in a builder grade home, it’s difficult to have character in our home unless we add it ourselves. I am so in love with these beams! I want them in our whole house now! My husband did offer to put them up in the rest of our house, IF I find some free lumber. I’m not sure that he knows what he is saying. I think he underestimates me. I’m already on the hunt!

Chester knows he needs a bath and keeps trying to rub himself on our new bed.

And, I think Chester may also be a little jealous of this amazing bed from Birchlane. He knows that my heart almost popped right out of my chest when I saw it in person for the first time! It’s literally tufted heaven! It came “white glove service” which means that they set up the bed for me and made sure that there were no marks on it. It is perfect! They did such a great job setting it up too! I don’t think that I’ve ever seen such a beautiful bed. And even though Chester is jealous, I know he thinks so too! I’ve heard from quite a few of you that you bought it too after you saw mine and I’m so excited for you! I can’t wait to see it in your homes too! It’s on major sale right now, so don’t miss out if you are looking for something similar.

Those thrifted lamps and mirrors…I’m so glad that I didn’t paint them! I guess me running out of time to paint them came in handy in the end. It was meant to be! Most of you voted on my IG stories for me to keep them dark and I love that you love the dark color too!

I would love to hear what you think of our bedroom refresh! I still have a couple of things to complete on the other side of the room but I sure do feel like I’m living in a lodge, right in the middle of the desert. And, I love it! Thank you so much for stopping by! Chester and I love your company.

Your room is stunning! Everything is no unique and so perfect. You and your sweet husband did an excellent job in this room. You must feel as if you stepped into a “magazine shoot” and the bathroom next to it is too awesome for words. So happy to see your dream come true for both of these areas. Wished I could see that wall behind the bed in person – its truly awesome with that beautiful bed as its centerpiece. I love the mirrors on the night stand too. Thanks for sharing with us.

Pretty before but the new look is PERFECT…love it all. The mix of new and thrifted is my favorite. We added faux beams in our living room when we moved in years ago….have never tired of them.

I only have a few accounts that I watch daily and yours is one. HA! Love all your finds – you lucky dog!!! We have the worst second hand stores here in Alabama. From watching you and a few in TX it looks like best finds are there and in AZ. Have a blessed day.
