We Bought A House!!!

Filed Under: Home Tour Tagged With: brick, brick fireplace, brick house, new house, old brick, renovating, vintage brick fireplace, wood ceiling

Are you surprised?! I am still kind of surprised, myself. It’s not what we had planned, but God sometimes has different plans that we do. We bought land to build a house about a couple of years ago. And, while we are going to keep the land for now, it just wasn’t working out for us to build at this time.

We are actually not disappointed at all and have a great peace about this decision, which I know only comes from the Lord. We have been looking at houses on and off on the MLS, just keeping an eye out in case we saw anything that was interesting to us. We’ve been looking for quite some time and have found nothing that we loved, until this house.

We actually looked at the housing market online on the daily. I would search the new houses listed that day, every day. For some reason, I missed this house. I was going back through all of the houses one day and asked Trav, “how did I miss this one?” I asked him if he wanted to see it and he said, “if you want to”.

To be honest, I thought it was going to be a waste of time because of his response. I think the discouragement of not being able to build for so long and with everything going on, it made us just think that this was just going to be another house that we would tour and walk away from.

When I opened the front door and looked into the great room when the huge brick fireplace and wood ceilings, I was in love! Trav was in love too, but even more in love with the workshop outside, connected to the garage.

We moved from our last house because we wanted more character and we wanted to be out of a neighborhood. Trav and I both grew up in the country and we loved being out of the city on a little bit of land. This house has a little over 2 acres with an amazing mountain view!

There will be lots of renovations to come! I can’t wait to transform the rooms into what we’ve been dreaming!

While it’s a little smaller than we would like, we are planning on building on a master suite. I do love the cozy feel of the house just the size it is, but you can see in the video the reason why we think we would like to move the master suite.

I have always wanted wood ceilings and a brick fireplace and walls, Trav has always wanted a workshop, and Brylie has always wanted a loft. Can you believe this house has all of those things and so much more? It makes me teary eyed, thinking of God’s grace over us with the long wait that we’ve been through. Am I saying that if He had provided a house that didn’t have those things that we wouldn’t be thankful? Absolutely not, but it’s pretty special to me how God led us to this house with the things that we had been dreaming about.

I have so many ideas running through my head that I’m getting a little dizzy, ha ha! I can’t wait to share them all with you and take you with us through the process of renovating!

I’m curious as to what you think about Saltillo floors…we will tell you later if we are planning on keeping them or not.

We are now in the inspection process, keeping our fingers crossed that the termites haven’t got the best of anything.

We will actually be able to close mid May, so we will be starting some renovations prior to moving everything in…at least that is our plan.

Do you think Trav’s is going to help me lighten up these ceilings? Let’s keep that question and answer to ourselves. I’m actually not sure what I’m doing with the ceilings, but I have some ideas that don’t include paint.

I would also love to expose more of the brick walls! The dreams in my mind are never ending!

I have many ideas for the backyard as well! You can see the front of the house and the Mountain View on the video. We are soooo excited and super excited to have all of you along for the journey too!!!

Here is a little video that I took during our walkthrough. I hope you enjoy hearing, in the video, some of the things we are planning on doing to the house too!

Please keep the Saltillo tile!! Pleeeeease!?! You can get rid of SOME of it (okay, it’s yours so you can do whatever you want), but all the southwest natives would grieve deeply in their hearts.
Im super jealous. Would move out there in a heartbeat if I could and if the family there would just behave and if the family here wanted to.

Great house – you are the right kind of buyer to make the proper improvements! …I’m a realtor… I love the Saltillo floors. Keep them where you can. It may be hard to transition with the added living space where the current master bedroom is now and with a kitchen addition. Definitely keep where you can. Will be a fun project to watch! Blessings on your family for finding this gem – I’ve always told my clients to trust the One in charge – He will lead you to where you need to be.

God is Good!!! It’s always fun to see His hand in a winding journey.

Our journey to our home was similar where realtor (my dad) and I checked every day but somehow the home we are in now was sitting there unnoticed by us & everyone else in a hot bidding war market where we were totally priced out of everything.

Can’t wait to see what you do with it & how it will show off all your beautiful furniture that you’ve been collecting/refreshing.

Good things come to those who wait! This house is dreamy, full of charm and character and looks like it has been loved. My only question is… how many cans of oven cleaner are you going to need to tackle that ceiling? 🙂
I think that wedding will be just a wee bit sweeter now!
    Heartfelt congratulations to you all!

I’m so happy you found a house! The lot is fantastic, the house…I can see your visions for it already! I love Sautillo floors. Would like it a little brighter inside for my taste, but I know you will make it awesome! Good plan to keep your land, if things change you can make your “retirement” home, and maybe then you won’t need a huge home! We built our retirement home at a little over 1800 s.f. on the main floor and we still have 5 bedrooms, 3 baths and two family rooms as well as a kitchen and dining room.We finished the walkout basement to gain another 1200 s.f. that could be modified as a two bdrm. apartment by just adding some kitchen appliances and a sink. We have a lake to fish and kayak on, in a private development of 28 homes. We decided this would mostly be our future “vacations” once we get too old to travel much. After 5 years, it’s still the best thing we’ve ever done, we love it so much, and our grandkids love to visit and get in the lake! Best wishes on this new place, I am so happy for you all!

LOVE THE BRICK!!! I also love the terra cotta floors! My Dad builds custom homes and when I was a kid, our house was a Spanish style and had the high ceiling and terra cotta in the kitchen and dining and I didn’t appreciate it at the time.

I can’t wait to follow along with your renovation journey! I’m so glad you aren’t stuck in limbo without having your own home to experiment with DIYs!

    God bless you all!

Congratulations on your new home. Isn’t God amazing! His plans are so much better than anything we can ever dream up. Those Saltillo floors are beautiful and look like they have been maintained very well. I work for a small company in Texas that produces and sells Saltillo. We are extremely busy so I know people love it. 😍 #RusticoTile

You are so energetic!!! This will be a big project and will keep you busy. I think you “furnitured” yourself out of the rental!!! Please!!! tell me you are not going to spray oven cleaner on the ceilings!!!…lololo…poor Trav!!!! It will be fun to follow along!!!

I can’t say I blame you. I think that first architect really made this a possibility. I thot you would end up buying. The house has a lot of character. I love all the brick and the wood ceilings. I wonder where you are going to put ALL the furniture you worked on in this house. I was particularly looking forward to your huge kitchen cabinets you were using old standing furniture for! I don’t care for the tile floors! I think you will need to enlarge the house as you plan. A lot of work is needed to make this a true Vintage Porch house! Good luck. 👍 ✌️❤️

I grew up in a home with those floors. We all loved them. And my mom said they were the easiest floors to keep in any home they ever owned. We constantly had people telling us how beautiful they were and they really were.
