The Huge Stripped Cabinet

Filed Under: Uncategorized Tagged With: antique, baskets, bleached, chandelier, raw wood, rustic, sanded, sanded furniture, sealer, stripped furniture

Introducing the amazing cabinet that traveled all the way from Michigan to Arizona! Surprisingly only one glass panel door broke in the move. This is the before photo before it was shipped. I knew it was a super old cabinet, and it needed a lot of work. The window sliding panels are what made me fall in love with it! It’s gorgeous!

The initial reddish/oragnish stain, or whatever they used on it, was a pain in my entire body to get off, but worth all the work in the end.

I used the Green EZ and it worked a little, but not great. So, I switched to sanding. That stain was hanging on for dear life! I finally was able to sand every last bit of stubborn stain off and I absolutely love how it turned out!

It’s going to be such a fun piece to decorate with or eventually put some of our dishes in!

It was Sooooooooooooo much work, but I love the end result, and the old icky stain is finally gone! It actually smells a little like a Christmas tree inside.

You might be able to barely see the cracked glass that we still have to get fixed, below. We actually fixed it once, sat it in our garage, and nothing touched it but it broke again. I’m not sure if it was because of the heat?

When I took off the door handles, I put them in a place where they wouldn’t get lost….and, for some reason I can’t find them. But, I’m sure they will show up eventually.

Trav let me have a chandelier in here and it fits perfectly! It’s the chandelier I found at a roadside sale for $25! Woooo hoooo! One of the best parts is definitely that Chester is feeling better. He loves to model for treats.

I’m sure that I will switch things out a billion times but it’s nice to have a place to put things that have been sitting all over the floor for months, literally collecting dust. And, I can’t wait to dig into some of these books, once we are settled!

I decided not to seal the cabinet since it was going to not be a high traffic piece. If it seems it needs a sealer later on, I will use General Finishes Clear because it dries the same color. What do you think of this giant piece all stripped down?

It’s an incredible piece! And totally worth all of your hard work to bring out it’s natural beauty; and the best part is few people will ever have one like it. While my style is different from yours (though I love antiques too!), I love that nothing about your home is cookie cutter, or replicated in a million other houses. Kudos to you for staying true to your style and working hard to make the most of it! Well done!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the cabinet turned out. Love the wood! You have so much cool stuff. I love decor items, but I need to always rethink what I do…seems less is more! Maybe rethink how much you have in your cabinet. IMO It takes away from seeing the cabinet bc you are so busy looking at the items! I have a tendency to overfill and usually clear out things so you can appreciate the ones left. Just my opinion, but it’s your house, and you certainly are creative, artistic, and I know you will do what you like. Not really a bad comment, just a think about it comment! ❤️❤️❤️

Outstanding I just purchased a large German armoire with similar grain I was lucky that a
good sanding left me with beautiful color I cut a whitish stain with mineral spirits to give it a little more white look to get rid of the bit of orange tint that it had but wow your piece! What insight to know that would look perfect in that space. Enjoy it you’ve decorated it lovely too!

It’s absolutely stunning!!! I even had my hubby get on your website & take a look. Could you tell me the exact General Finishes clear that you use. I stripped some antique chairs & I don’t want to change the color of the raw wood. You mentioned that General Finishes doesn’t change the color of the wood.

Omy, screeched to a halt…WHOA!!! was that a ship worthy amount of wood to “reclaim” and sand!
You are truly a dedicated artiste:)
Please share exactly which General Finishes CLEAR you would use
here, because I know some woods still release their tannins and seep yellow and was hoping you have an insight you would give to prevent my purchasing the wrong formula, on my next “naked wood” project. Stupendous job!!! (standing ovation)

A window behind the bed and off centered paintings A window behind the bed and off centered paintings…I love it but who is hot and bothered? 🤔😂 I may have to add a couple more paintings when I find the right ones, like they are crawling up the wall, but for now, I like it like this. 😁 #bedroominspo #bedroomdecor #bedroomdesign #antiquepainting
(Swipe over) Do the “before” photos even make (Swipe over) Do the “before” photos even make sense? Like, can you see the layout difference since we took down the wall? It’s such a fun room and I’m so happy that this butterfly got it’s wings…that means, I love how it turned out, but if you don’t like it, I guess you would say, where the butterfly got ran over again and again…and again. But to me…this butterfly is flying right into a lake of chocolate…well, unless you don’t like chocolate, then maybe it’s just a cake, or a pie, or candy…I like it a lot…that is all. Oh, that, and I love this island we got from @antiquitieswarehouse 🤩#kitchen #kitchenisland #furnituredesign
This trashed dresser that I refinished is one that This trashed dresser that I refinished is one that has moved with us through all of the moves and now it’s finally home. If you wondered where it ended up, it’s right here in the dining room and I love it! #trashtotreasure #fixedup #beforeandafter #apothecary
I like books…but I rarely read books 🤔 …it’s kind of like staring at Trav when he wiggles, snores, and whistles…always wondering why he does these things, but never knowing. Knowing is half the battle, but sometimes we just have to be ok with not knowing…there’s a lot of things in these books that I may never know…but I will look through all of them some day to see if there’s any hidden money. #booksbooksbooks
(Swipe over for “before”)…Ummmmm, I’m spee (Swipe over for “before”)…Ummmmm, I’m speechless! Wow! This turned out amazing and fingers crossed it lasts long term! We had our tub and tile surround refinished today and Alfonso did a great job! I can’t wait to start using it and see how it holds up over time! It’s beautiful! Some of you were wondering details and I know Alfonso could answer questions better than I, but the quick of it was some sort of acid cleaning, then etching spray, then the stuff that looks cool 😎🤩🤩 We paid $899 for it and he was done in 4 hours, I think. It’s stinky but he did a great job of keeping the smell on the down low and used a large vent system that he brought with him. If you’re local to Tucson and want your tub refinished, Altamate Tub Refinishing did a super job and he’s very kind. 520-409-2242…not a partnership, we paid for this service, just sharing. 😁 #tubrefinishing #bathroomtub #tub #whitetile #whitetiles #paintedtiles #paintedtile #tucson #tucsonaz

I think the art looks even more vibrant now after using the mod podge too! (See process in stories) #bathroomdesign #bathroominspiration #bathroom #bathroomdecor #goldframe
