Interior Design, DIY, and Refurbishing

My Thrift Score Bench!

Have any of you ever attempted to upholster a bench, chair, stool, etc. with a staple gun? I have to say that large furniture pieces are not easy and they are very time consuming but little projects like the one I’m about to show you are super easy. Here is my little tutorial of how I recovered this cute little mid century modern bench in an hour . Let me just tell you that I found this cute little bench in the trash at a thrift store. Lol, yes I sometimes check out the trash pile while I’m there…not ashamed. I couldn’t believe someone would just throw away these stylish legs! The top was just made of particle board and I actually liked the rustic look of it just as it was but it looked as though there had been some type of glue all over this shabby particle board so I decided to give it a new look. I’m so in love with all of these faux furs that are available right now (a little obsessed I am). I went with a glam look over the mid-century modern prints. I found this cute faux fur fabric at Hancock Fabrics and even though it sheds like crazy when you cut it, the super soft feel won me over!! In the end this ended up being my $30 bench with all of my supplies. This is where it all started…

I turned the bench upside down on the foam and cut the foam with a pair of scissors to fit the top of the bench. I then used a spray adhesive to make it stay in place on top of the bench.

I used some batting that I had on hand and doubled it to fit the size of the bench. I then folded it around the edges and stapled it to the bottom of the bench.

Next is the fun part! I looked like a white bird after cutting all of this faux fir to fit my bench but it actually sweeps up nicely and once the edges shed off it does not continue to shed. After cutting to size with a little left to tuck under the edges, I stapled the faux fir on just as I did the batting.

What a cute little bench, foot rest, coffee table this turned out to be! I love rustic design but it’s always fun to mix in some mid-century modern for a rustic modern look. What do you think of my little bench?

I found this old coffee grinder in an online aucti I found this old coffee grinder in an online auction, and I didn’t pay only $2 for it. I’m pretty sure it was one of those things where I was like, “Trav, this is going to be my birthday present” …it was months before my birthday so he forgets and still gets me something…of course I didn’t do that on purpose. 😁 I don’t buy pricey things like this often but it was something that I had been wanting for a while and they can go for $400-$500 online 🤪Lots of you ask if we use it, the answer is, I want to, but I just keep forgetting bc Trav is the one that drinks coffee and I don’t want to remind him that we have it or I might not get a birthday present this year.🤔And, I honestly don’t remember how much I paid for it but it was in the $200s …but it seems I really got it for Trav bc I don’t drink coffee🤔, but don’t tell Trav. #antiquecoffeegrinder #coffeegrinder #kitchendecor #kitchenremodel

Thanks for reminding me that I have stuff in the g Thanks for reminding me that I have stuff in the garage 😁 We covered our TV with art stuff from the garage and metal pipes and, it worked 🙌🏼😁 (see stories) I can still see the tv from the side but when we get the new wall bracket for it, that should help bc we can push it back more. It’s a good temp fix to have some cool art instead of a black box! Oh, and who remembers when I stripped this dresser? #tvart #brickfloor #oldpainting
