My Dining Room Refresh

It’s finished! I’m so thankful for all of your help on my IG stories to help me choose just the right seating. I decided to go with the chairs instead of the church pew in this space because my church pew really belongs in my entry way and then I would have to tear into that space too. My hubs lets me tear up enough stuff, the least I can do is leave one space alone….while I’m redoing the other one anyways. I started off by painting my shelves with my chalk paint recipe and then I thought, “what have you done?” I usually get those thoughts a quarter mile into my projects. The good part is that I don’t quit until I have a result that I love. Well, I think that’s the good part anyways. My hubs may agree to disagree. You can see the before of my dining space, here.

I wanted to brighten up this space from what it was prior so I decided to sand down my table top and lighten it up. I’m so glad that I did!! It was worth all of the sweat and hard work! I first sanded it with 100 grit sandpaper and my hand sander, until I had all of the previous stain and poly removed. Then I wiped on pure bleach with a rag and let it sit in the sun for a couple of hours. It lightened it up but there was still a twinge of “yellowy” coloring in the wood, so I used this white wax. I wiped the wax on with a lint free cloth and I AM IN LOVE with the end result!! It’s even better than I had dreamt it would be!

I decided to paint a couple more frames to add to my chippy white antique frame collection and then I had some photos printed from our Pacific Coast vacation this summer. I lightened the photos up in the “snapseed” app before I had them printed and I love how they turned out! The fit perfectly into this space now.

I deconstructed this antique settee a week ago and you can see the post of the before and after, here. I still can’t believe it’s the same piece of furniture!

Since I was trying to shop my home and spend little to no money on this space, I decided to pull out my bins of faux florals and see if I could whip something together for Fall. I’m surprised that I had what I needed for the desired outcome. I’m planning on using rich warm tones with pops of white and greens for my Fall decor this year.

This is the chandelier that I found on Craigslist a couple of years ago for $60! I’m still amazed and it’s alway been one of my favorite finds!

I’m so glad that you stopped by for my little dining room refresh tour! It was so fun to work on and to take you along the process in my IG stories. I would love to hear what you think in the comments below. Happy Day, my friends!

It looks amazing, but how do you think the wax will hold up? enough protection from water stains?? I love the lighter look!

I’m so sorry that I missed this, wax is not as wipeable as water based poly.

Once again you killed it with another beautiful redo. When you were sanding and bleaching (watching your stories) are the boards just screwed onto the base? I would love to give it a whirl with my table.
