I love using original pieces that you can’t just run to find at Target. Don’t get me wrong, Target is one of my favorite places to shop, but when it comes to furniture pieces I would rather find an old, sturdy piece with a lot of character! I found this dresser a while back on Craigslist for $60! It’s usually when I’m not looking for a deal that I find one. And then…I just can’t pass it up. I wasn’t too fond of the color but lived with it for a while and when I look back now, it looks so dark and dated, along with all of the shelf decor! I’m in love with whites and neutrals! When I walk into Pottery Barn to get ideas, there is never a time when I beg them to add more color! Here is a before of my old dresser and shelves (yes the lighting is horrible)…yuck!
When searching for shelf decor, I rarely go anywhere but thrift stores, but thrift stores don’t cut it for everything that’s for sure! On the top shelf the candle holder is from Home Goods (that may have a date with my paint soon) and the pitcher, rusty grate, horse photo and frame are all from a thrift store. I had the K for quite some time and I just painted it. My daughter picked me these dried out weeds for my pitcher when we were at the lake! What a smart girl…she even came up with the idea on her own!
On the middle shelf, I found everything at thrift stores (minus the horse head that I found at Home Goods). I painted the candle sticks and added some jewels, painted the mirror, and made a short tea light holder from a rusty machine part.
And on top of the dresser/buffet, I painted the fox from Target, bought the frame from Michael’s, and everything else is thrifted!
The dresser is painted with Trophy Milk Paint by Miss Mustard Seed…it naturally distresses itself! It’s the coolest thing! I sealed it with MMS dark wax. I LOVE it! Distressed and perfect! I hope that you enjoyed my little thrift store tour! Go find yourself a deal!
